Mackenzie Rainbow Swim Club Summer 2020 Session 1

10 and up Group:
This group will focus their training sessions on overall fitness. Each day of the week will be designed based on components of physical activity, team bonding, and health and wellness. I will be following the 2020 Covid Cup Fish Outta Water program suggestions (find more information about this: http://www.bcsummerswimming.com/clubs/6594/pages/179290) and personalizing this program to our Rainbows team! For example, Heart Rate Mondays will focus on cardiovascular workouts and Work It Wednesday will focus on flexibility/core strengthening. Each of these training sessions will be similar to our drylands sessions prior to hoping in the pool and as a result all of the workouts will be geared towards swimming exercises. A major emphasis of these training sessions will be on having fun, enjoying the feelings of a team atmosphere, and achieving the recommended 150 minutes/week of physical activity.
6 to 9 Group:
This group will focus their training sessions on fundamental movement skills such as balancing, skipping, and jumping. Our main focus is to have fun and move our bodies! Throughout the sessions we will talk about swimming and how the workouts we are doing will help us to become even better swimmers. Both groups will start out using Zoom to connect swimmers and coach but I hope we will be able to migrate outside onto the Mackenzie Secondary school field eventually should this be a practical and safe option for our participants. Getting outside on the field would allow all of us to maintain a social distance between participants as well as encouraging even more the aspects of team bonding and social cohesion while we are dryland training! It’s important during this time of isolation to make an attempt at some normalcy so we are excited to welcome back and welcome new Rainbow Swim Club members!
